Tips for Safely Navigating the 116th Street and Carmel Drive Roundabouts
The 116th Street and Carmel Drive interchanges with Keystone Parkway will function as one large interchange when complete.

Northbound Keystone Parkway Exit to Access 116th Street and Carmel Drive

Travelers on northbound Keystone Parkway exiting onto 116th Street will see no difference from the other Keystone interchanges. Travelers wishing to exit from northbound Keystone Parkway to Carmel Drive will exit at 116th Street, then proceed north through the roundabout before traveling down the frontage road and arriving at the Carmel Drive roundabout.

Southbound Keystone Parkway Exit to Access Carmel Drive and 116th Street

Travelers on southbound Keystone Parkway exiting onto Carmel Drive will exit directly onto Carmel Drive just like the other Keystone interchanges. Travelers wishing to exit from southbound Keystone Parkway to 116th Street will exit at Carmel Drive, then proceed south through the roundabout before traveling down the frontage road and arriving at the 116th Street roundabout. Access to Merchants Square shopping center can take place from the southbound frontage road between Carmel Drive and 116th Street.

Please remember these four tips:

  1. When approaching the roundabout, look to your left. Vehicles already in the roundabout have the right-of-way. If there is no traffic in the roundabout, you do not need to stop. If there is traffic present, then wait for a break in traffic before entering the roundabout.
  2. Slow down — use proper judgment when determining how fast to drive around the roundabout. 15-20 mph is a safe speed.
  3. Select the appropriate lane before you enter the roundabout. Keep your car in the same lane as you enter and exit the roundabout. (see diagram)
  4. Buses, trucks, and vehicles with trailers may need more than one lane on the roundabout. Use caution when next to or near a larger vehicle when entering a roundabout.
